Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledged Bayer Leverkusen as the likely Bundesliga champions after Bayern’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

With Leverkusen holding a 13-point lead over Bayern with seven games left, Tuchel admitted that Bayern’s chances of winning the title are slim. He congratulated Leverkusen on their impressive form and stated, “After that game now, we can’t say anything. How many points is it now? Congratulations to Leverkusen.”

If Leverkusen secures the title, it would be the first time since 2012 that a team other than Bayern clinches the Bundesliga trophy.

Bayern’s dominance in recent years, winning four consecutive Bundesliga titles from 2016 onwards, is under threat due to their inconsistency this season. Leverkusen’s remarkable unbeaten streak of 39 games across all competitions has put them in a strong position to claim their maiden Bundesliga title.

Despite Leverkusen’s previous near misses, finishing as runners-up on several occasions, they are now on the brink of a historic triumph. The team’s determination was evident in their recent hard-fought victory over Hoffenheim, where they secured a late win with two goals.

Scorer Robert Andrich praised the team’s effort, stating, “It’s another milestone. But I think today was really a special one, and I feel a compliment is due to the team for giving it everything to the end, for believing to the end.”
