San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin wasn’t there for the end of Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. In fact, he didn’t even make it to the start.

In a rare occurrence, Melvin was ejected before the first pitch when he and bench coach Ryan Christensen brought the lineup card to home plate umpire Alex MacKay.

“I just talked too much,” Melvin said after the Giants’ 3-2 win.

“Umpiring’s a hard job, I’m aware of that, just probably said too much. I didn’t plan that, it wasn’t choreographed. I probably went too far.”

San Francisco had lost 4-3 to the Rockies on Saturday night and 7-3 on Friday.

Right after Melvin was thrown out, Jorge Soler hit a 478-foot home run to center field to lead off Sunday’s game for the Giants, the longest homer in the majors this season.
