Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins and head coach Raheem Morris wore T-shirts from Apalachee High School during their warmups before the season opener on Sunday to honor the victims of a tragic shooting.
Last week, four people were killed and nine were injured at the school in Winder, a city in the suburbs of Atlanta. A 14-year-old student has been charged with the shooting that claimed the lives of two students and two teachers.
Apalachee High is about 20 miles away from the Falcons’ practice facility in Flowery Branch.
“That was pretty sobering,” Cousins said shortly after the shooting on Wednesday. “Praying for the families that are affected, the school, the community. It’s a tough deal. I’m going to go home tonight and hug and kiss my kids.”
Before the game, there was a moment of silence. The game ended with the Pittsburgh Steelers winning 18-10.
