After performing with the New York Philharmonic, Bernie Williams, the former New York Yankees center fielder, is heading back to his homeland, Puerto Rico, for an event to raise awareness about Interstitial Lung Disease.

The event, happening at the TASIS Dorado Performing Arts Center in Dorado, will feature discussions and performances by Williams and former MLB players Carlos Beltrán and Carlos Delgado.

Williams, along with his band led by musical director Osvaldo Lopez, will be joined by his brother Hiram on cello and nephew Harell on flute.

Williams’ advocacy for lung disease awareness stems from his father’s battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, which led to his passing in 2001 at age 73.

Now, at 55, Williams serves as a spokesperson for Lungs&You, aiming to educate others about lung diseases as part of the Tune Into Lung Health campaign.

Alongside his baseball achievements, which include five All-Star selections and four World Series titles, Williams is also recognized as a Latin Grammy-nominated classical guitarist, recently making his debut with the New York Philharmonic under conductor Gustavo Dudamel on April 24.
