A duo of fighters eager to extend their recent winning streaks amidst the bustling featherweight landscape has been scheduled to clash during the UFC’s anticipated return to New Jersey next month.
Bill Algeo (18-7 MMA, 5-3 UFC) is slated to face off against Kyle Nelson (15-5-1 MMA, 3-4-1 UFC) when the UFC touches down in Atlantic City on March 30 for an electrifying Fight Night (ESPN) event at Boardwalk Hall.
This matchup has been confirmed by sources familiar with the booking, who requested anonymity as the UFC has yet to make an official announcement, as per MMA Junkie.
For Algeo, a narrow split decision loss to Andre Fili in September 2022 is the sole blemish standing between him and what could have been a remarkable five-fight winning spree – a feat that commands attention in the featherweight division.
However, in 2023, he bounced back with a convincing second-round submission victory over TJ Brown and a solid decision win against Alexander Hernandez. His triumph over Brown even earned him a $50,000 bonus.
Meanwhile, after enduring a tough stretch with four losses in his initial five UFC appearances, Canada’s Nelson has found his stride, tallying 2 wins and a draw in his last three outings.
Following a closely contested majority draw with Doo Ho Choi a year ago, Nelson secured consecutive unanimous decision victories over Blake Bilder and Fernanda Padilla. Now, he’s aiming to secure his first three-fight winning streak in six years.
With this addition, the UFC’s March 30 lineup boasts an exciting array of matchups:
- Erin Blanchfield vs. Manon Fiorot
- Alonzo Menifield vs. Carlos Ulberg
- Dennis Buzukja vs. Connor Matthews
- Loopy Godinez vs. Virna Jandiroba
- Jacob Malkoun vs. Andre Petroski
- Bruno Silva vs. Chris Weidman
- Sedriques Dumas vs. Nursulton Ruziboev
- Caolan Loughran vs. Angel Pacheco
- Rhys McKee vs. Chidi Njokuani
- Julio Arce vs. Herbert Burns
- Ibo Aslan vs. Anton Turkalj
- Bill Algeo vs. Kyle Nelson
