Angel City FC announced on Wednesday that Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Company, and Willow Bay, dean for communication and journalism in Southern California, will become the new majority owners of what the team calls the most valuable women’s sports franchise globally.
The couple will acquire the controlling stake in the National Women’s Soccer League team at a valuation of $250 million.
Bay will oversee the team’s board of directors and represent them on the NWSL’s Board of Governors.
In 2023, ACFC led the NWSL in attendance, sponsorship revenue, and overall revenue, making it the highest-grossing women’s team worldwide. The team also boasts the largest season ticket membership.
The board unanimously approved the transaction, which is expected to finalize within the next 30 to 60 days pending customary closing conditions and NWSL approval.
“Willow and Bob bring extensive operational experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to ACFC and the NWSL,” the board stated. “They have been lifelong supporters of ACFC since its inception and are deeply committed to the Los Angeles community, where they have lived, led, and supported local organizations for nearly three decades.”
