Alec Bohm’s double in the 10th inning helped the Philadelphia Phillies win against the St. Louis Cardinals with a score of 5-3 on Monday night.
Bohm’s hit brought in Cristian Pache, who was already on base due to the extra inning rule. Bryson Stott then hit a sacrifice fly to score another run for the Phillies, securing their victory. Phillies manager Rob Thomson praised Bohm’s hit, as well as Stott’s at-bat against a tough pitcher.
Gregory Soto closed the game for the Phillies, earning his first save. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals scored two runs off Jeff Hoffman to tie the game. Jordan Walker hit a sacrifice fly and Masyn Winn’s single evened the score at 3-3.
This comeback was commendable, especially considering the strength of the Phillies’ bullpen and starting pitchers, according to Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
The Phillies’ starter, Spencer Turnbull, had another impressive performance, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out six batters. Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas also pitched well, allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings.
Turnbull has yet to allow a run in 11 innings pitched this season, following his scoreless debut against Cincinnati on April 2.
Johan Rojas contributed to the Phillies’ offense with an RBI single, adding to his strong defensive play earlier in the game. The Phillies took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning with four singles.
Rojas continued his good form against the Cardinals, extending his hitting streak against them to five games. The Cardinals suffered their second consecutive loss.
