Braxton Garrett had an impressive pitching duel against Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks, securing his first-ever shutout in the Major Leagues. Otto Lopez contributed with a two-run single, helping the Miami Marlins clinch a 3-0 victory on Friday night.

The Marlins have been on a hot streak, winning eight of their last 11 games after a rough start to the season with a record of 10-31.

Garrett, who returned from a shoulder injury earlier in the season, delivered his best performance yet, allowing only four hits and striking out six batters over nine innings. His ERA dropped significantly from 10.24 to 5.30 after the game.

Reflecting on his performance, Garrett expressed his satisfaction with his upward trend despite previous struggles in his last two outings.

Jake Burger celebrates with Nick Fortes after scoring

This game marked not only Garrett’s first shutout in the MLB, but also his first complete game, finishing with 95 pitches. He sealed the victory by retiring Christian Walker with a long fly ball to center field, prompting a joyous celebration with catcher Nick Fortes.

The Marlins’ recent success has been largely attributed to their pitching prowess, evident in their five shutouts in the last nine games.

Lopez contributed significantly to the Marlins’ offense, driving in two runs in the second inning with a solid grounder up the middle. Jake Burger extended the lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning, highlighting the team’s execution against tough opponents like Gallen.

Burger emphasized the importance of capitalizing on opportunities against top pitchers, underscoring the Marlins’ strategy against formidable opponents.
