Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores recently addressed criticism from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who described Flores as a “terrible person” in a recent interview. Flores responded with a gracious tone, expressing genuine happiness for Tagovailoa’s achievements and wishing him well, despite the negative remarks made about him.

Flores, who was the Dolphins’ head coach during Tagovailoa’s first two seasons, was dismissed in January 2022 amid speculation about a strained relationship with the quarterback.

Tagovailoa’s interview with “The Dan LeBatard Show” highlighted a perceived difference in coaching styles between Flores and the current Dolphins coach, Mike McDaniel. Tagovailoa felt that Flores’ approach was overly critical, contrasting it with McDaniel’s more supportive demeanor.

In a detailed press conference, Flores reflected on the feedback from Tagovailoa, admitting that his coaching style might have been challenging for some players. He acknowledged that while he maintains high standards, he has recognized areas for improvement and has been working on enhancing his communication and approach over the past few years.

Flores also considered the possibility of reaching out to Tagovailoa to address any unresolved issues, though he emphasized his current focus on his role with the Vikings. He reiterated his commitment to making a positive impact on players, drawing from his experiences and aiming to be a supportive and effective coach.

The support from his current Vikings players was evident, with defensive lineman Harrison Phillips and safety Josh Metellus showing solidarity with Flores.

Phillips, who initially had reservations about Flores’ approach, praised him for building strong relationships within the team. Metellus also expressed appreciation for Flores, highlighting the positive influence he has had on the team, despite the external criticisms.
