The quarterback competition for the Denver Broncos appears to be narrowing down to two candidates. During the recent training camp practice, Jarrett Stidham took the reps with the first-team offense, a slot that was scheduled for Zach Wilson. This shift also involves rookie Bo Nix, who had first-team reps the day before.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton, when asked about the quarterback rotation, provided a non-committal response regarding Wilson’s future opportunities with the first-team offense. His statement, “We’ll see,” leaves Wilson’s position in question and suggests a possible demotion for the quarterback.

Wilson’s potential fall in the depth chart might not come as a surprise. Despite being the most athletic among the trio, Wilson lacks the first-round pedigree of Bo Nix and the familiarity with Denver’s system that Stidham possesses. Stidham’s experience and Nix’s draft status could be contributing factors to their leading positions in the competition.

Wilson, acquired from the Jets in an offseason trade, has had a challenging career with a record of 12-21 as a starter. Last season, he went 4-7 after filling in for an injured Aaron Rodgers. At 24, Wilson had hoped to compete for the starting role, but with the preseason approaching, he seems to be lagging behind Stidham and Nix in the race for the top spot.
