What made Louisville happiest about their tough win over Georgia Tech was the teamwork that made it happen. The No. 19 Cardinals also had great timing.

Ja’Corey Brooks caught a 57-yard touchdown pass that put Louisville ahead late in the third quarter. Tayon Holloway then blocked a field goal and returned it 45 yards for another touchdown. This helped No. 19 Louisville win against Georgia Tech 31-19 on Saturday.

The Cardinals (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) played well on both defense and offense, leading 17-7 in the second quarter. However, the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 17 late in the third quarter. Louisville took the lead again with Tyler Shough’s long pass to Brooks, who caught it while running, even as a Georgia Tech defender was called for pass interference.

The Yellow Jackets (3-2, 1-2) got closer with a safety when Shough fell to his knee while trying to throw from the end zone with 11:23 left in the game.

After that, Tech received the kickoff and drove into Louisville territory, setting up Aidan Burr’s 50-yard field goal attempt on fourth down. Holloway came in from the left side, blocked the kick, picked up the ball, and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown with 7:05 remaining.

This play led to celebrations among teammates and the crowd of 50,727.

“Took all four quarters and a lot of different things to come up and pull off the victory,” Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said. “We were definitely tested. It was a back-and-forth game and a lot of momentum swings, but we hung in there.”

“Defense, while it wasn’t perfect, had some big fourth-down stops and of course a huge turnover. Special teams gave us the advantage, that was the key.”

Even after returning from an early bye week, Louisville kept the same energy that led to big wins against FCS Austin Peay and Jacksonville State. However, Georgia Tech kept challenging the Cardinals, making Holloway’s crucial touchdown even more important.
