Bryson Washington had a career-high 196 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Isaiah Hankins kicked a 33-yard field goal on the last play, leading Baylor to a 37-34 win over TCU on Saturday night.

With 16 seconds left, the Bears faced a fourth-and-9 at the TCU 44-yard line when Sawyer Robertson connected with Michael Trigg for a 15-yard pass. Washington then ran for 13 yards, setting up Hankins’ kick with just five seconds remaining.

“We’re going to go for it,” said Baylor coach Dave Aranda. “Those decisions are always tough. I’ve been here when they didn’t work out and everything went wrong. But when you attack, the players feel like they’re the ones attacking.”

Baylor (5-4, 3-3 Big 12) won the same way TCU did two years ago in Waco, leading to fans rushing the field to celebrate. The Horned Frogs had won with a last-second field goal in a 29-28 victory on their way to a 12-0 regular season and a national championship game appearance.

TCU (5-4, 3-3) tied the game with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Josh Hoover to Jack Bech with 1:55 left. Hoover threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns and also scored a rushing touchdown. Bech had two touchdown catches.

The Bears won their third straight game after ending two eight-game Big 12 losing streaks in the previous weeks—one overall and the other at home in conference play.

The Horned Frogs were also seeking their third consecutive win, hoping to stay in the race for the Big 12 championship game.

Washington scored on runs of 8, 40, and 35 yards, and then added a 1-yard touchdown to finish a 13-play, 81-yard drive that put Baylor ahead. After TCU tied the game again, Robertson guided an 11-play drive to secure the victory.

Savion Williams contributed with 92 yards receiving, 57 rushing, and also threw a touchdown pass for TCU.

TCU called a timeout when Baylor lined up outside of field goal range. If Baylor had turned the ball over on downs, the Horned Frogs might have had time to set up for a winning kick, similar to Griffin Kell’s 40-yarder from two years ago.

“We weren’t quite sure what they were going to do,” TCU coach Sonny Dykes said. “I thought they might try to draw us offsides for a shorter field goal. You have to give them credit; they made a good play.”
