Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller has been suspended for four games by the NFL on Tuesday for breaking the league’s personal conduct policy.
The NFL did not disclose the reason for the suspension, which comes as Buffalo (3-1) gets ready to play the Houston Texans on Sunday. Miller, who leads active NFL players in sacks, can return to the Bills before their home game against Miami on November 3.
Miller was accused last November of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at their home near Dallas during the Bills’ bye week. He surrendered to police after being accused of third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, which can lead to two to ten years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Miller and the woman have been in a relationship for seven years and have two other children together.
No charges have been filed. In July, Miller mentioned that he thought the case was closed based on what his lawyers told him.
“My life is all about football right now and my kids, and being the best teammate and best football player I can possibly be,” he said at the time. “I’m happy to be here with the Buffalo Bills. I’m happy to just be in this moment, living my life and doing the things that we do normally.”
The 35-year-old Miller has three sacks in four games this season. Last season, he did not record a sack in 14 games, including playoffs, after recovering from a torn knee ligament.
Miller has a total of 126 1/2 sacks, which ties him for 17th place on the career list with Derrick Thomas.
In his first comments about his arrest in December, Miller denied the allegations, calling them false and “blown out of proportion.” He acknowledged that something happened between him and his girlfriend but emphasized that it was not as serious as what he was accused of doing.
