Byron Buxton hit a three-run home run and had three hits to help the Minnesota Twins defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-6 on Thursday.
Twins shortstop Carlos Correa had to leave the game in the seventh inning after getting hit by a pitch on his right wrist by Bryce Jarvis. Fortunately, X-rays showed no serious injury, and he is considered day-to-day.
After the game, Correa expressed relief, saying his hand went numb initially, but he was glad to receive good news quickly.
Correa reached base five times during the game, with a single, two walks, a catcher’s interference, and being hit by a pitch. Buxton, who hit his seventh home run of the season, also scored three times as the Twins scored all 13 runs between the second and fifth innings. Minnesota won two out of three games in the series and has won four of its last five overall.
“We had a great approach today,” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli. “Our hitters couldn’t have swung the bats much better.”
Arizona fell behind 11-0 before scoring four runs off David Festa, who was making his major league debut for Minnesota. Ketel Marte hit his 17th home run of the season, tying Christian Walker for the team lead.
Festa received ample run support and earned the win. He pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Festa also appreciated the support from his family and friends in the stands. “Having my family and friends here was really exciting for me,” he said. “It meant a lot to have their support. The early run production from the lineup made my job easier.”
Arizona’s starter Montgomery had won his last three starts, but he struggled against the predominantly right-handed Minnesota lineup, giving up six runs in a 38-pitch second inning.
