The Vikings are meeting with a group of potential draft picks on Monday, which includes one of the top defensive players in the class.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Byron Murphy II, a former Texas defensive tackle, is visiting the team. The Vikings have the No. 11 pick in the draft.
In 2023, Murphy was honored as the Big 12 defensive lineman of the year. He had 5.0 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in 14 games for the Longhorns, helping them reach a CFP Semifinal game. He also scored two offensive touchdowns during the season.
With Kirk Cousins leaving in free agency and the Vikings acquiring the No. 23 pick from the Texans, there’s speculation that Minnesota might trade up to select a quarterback. However, if they stick with the No. 11 pick, Murphy could be a potential choice.
Interestingly, this would mean the Vikings would have two players named Byron Murphy, as they signed cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. to a two-year deal last March.
Former LSU offensive lineman Charles Turner III and former Tennessee tight end McCallan Castles are also visiting the Vikings on Monday, as reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
