Iowa’s Caitlin Clark Passes Brittney Griner for 4th on NCAA’s All-Time Scoring List

The Iowa sensation climbed to the fourth spot on the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring list on Tuesday night, delivering a stellar performance with 32 points in a commanding 96-50 victory over Wisconsin. This achievement brought her career total to 3,306 points.

Caitlin Clark’s impressive long-range shooting prowess was highlighted by NBC Sports, emphasizing her outstanding form. With a free throw during the game, Clark surpassed former Baylor standout center Brittney Griner, who accumulated 3,283 points in her four collegiate seasons from 2009 to 2013.

Currently, Clark is in pursuit of climbing higher on the scoring ladder, trailing behind Jackie Stiles of Missouri State (3,393 points between 1997-01), Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State (3,402 points, 2014-18), and Kelsey Plum of Washington (3,527 points, 2013-17). If she maintains her health and continues her impressive scoring streak of over 30 points per game, she stands a chance of breaking the record this season.

What sets Clark apart is not just her scoring ability; she’s also a phenomenal playmaker, averaging an impressive 7.9 assists per game, the second-best mark in women’s basketball behind Colorado State’s McKenna Hofschild (8.4 APG). Additionally, she leads the nation in three-pointers made per game with an average of 5.1. Clark has been instrumental in guiding the No. 2 Hawkeyes to an outstanding 18-1 record this season, with only unbeaten South Carolina (15-0) ranking higher.

Looking ahead, Caitlin Clark is poised to be the top overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, with the Indiana Fever currently holding the coveted selection. Given her transcendent talent and the widespread interest she has generated, trading this pick would be unfathomable. Clark’s potential to become one of the biggest superstars in the history of the sport makes her the most obvious and compelling choice for the top overall selection unless she decides to return to school.
