NFL team owners have given their approval for Cal McNair to take on the role of principal owner of the Texans, according to an announcement made by the team on Tuesday.
Cal McNair, who previously held positions as the team’s CEO and chairman, will now officially represent the club. His mother, Janice McNair, had been fulfilling this role since the passing of her husband and team founder Bob McNair in 2018, with Cal overseeing the day-to-day football operations on her behalf.
Expressing her support for the decision, Janice McNair stated, “The Houston Texans mean so much to our family, and I’m extremely proud that Cal will continue to lead the franchise moving forward.”
She highlighted Cal’s successful tenure as CEO and emphasized that the move is seen as beneficial for the organization’s future under his guidance.
Cal McNair’s appointment comes after a period of familial dispute, with his brother, Cary, previously seeking to have their mother declared legally unfit. However, Cary McNair has since withdrawn the lawsuit.
Reflecting on his new role, Cal McNair expressed gratitude for his mother’s leadership and contributions, both on and off the field. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining the team’s stability and pursuing success, both in terms of championships and community engagement.
