Cal Raleigh hit a two-run home run in the first inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, while Julio Rodríguez also homered, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 6-4 win over the Athletics on Thursday in their last game scheduled at the Oakland Coliseum.
Luke Raley contributed a two-run homer in the ninth inning for important insurance runs, helping the Mariners move within 4 1/2 games of the Houston Astros in the American League West standings.
Bryan Woo (7-2) struck out six batters and didn’t walk anyone in five innings to earn the win in his home region, just a 10-minute drive from his hometown of Alameda.
Woo felt emotional thinking about being the pitcher of record for Seattle’s final win at a stadium where he has many fond memories from his youth. The A’s will be relocating to Sacramento for the 2025-27 seasons before moving to Las Vegas.
“That’s pretty crazy, honestly,” Woo said. “I’ve attended more games here than anywhere else. It’s hard to process right now. It’s a mix of sadness, surprise, and a lot of emotions. It’s wild.”
Woo has won his last two games, including victories against the A’s and San Francisco. He allowed two runs on eight hits and has had five or more strikeouts in six of his last seven starts.
Raleigh, who also hit a two-run homer in the first inning on Monday, now has 29 home runs, just one shy of his career-high of 30 from last year. He would become the 12th catcher in major league history with multiple 30-home run seasons, and his 87 RBIs are the most by a catcher in franchise history for a single season, surpassing manager Dan Wilson’s 83 RBIs from 1996.
