Carlos Alcaraz had a strong start at the French Open on Sunday, beating J.J. Wolf 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. It was Alcaraz’s first win since recovering from a right forearm injury that kept him out for almost a month.
“After the match, I didn’t feel anything,” Alcaraz said, expressing his satisfaction with his performance. In the women’s event, Naomi Osaka began her seventh appearance in Paris with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Lucia Bronzetti.
“I was pretty nervous and got really tight,” Osaka admitted during an on-court interview, reflecting on her challenging win.
Osaka secured her first Grand Slam victory since 2022, making a comeback in January after maternity leave.
She could potentially face No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the next round, a prospect Osaka regards as an honor due to Swiatek’s past successes at the French Open.
Bronzetti ranked No. 134, has not won at Roland Garros in her three appearances, with a career record of 3-10 in Grand Slam tournaments.
Elsewhere, Dayana Yastremska defeated Ajla Tomljanovic, while Lesia Tsurenko withdrew from her match against Donna Vekic due to a back problem.
In the men’s competition, No. 6 Andrey Rublev beat Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-5, despite showing some frustration during the match.
Lorenzo Sonego caused an upset by defeating No. 17 Ugo Humbert 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, with Humbert being the highest-ranked French player in the tournament.
