Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winning goal in the third period and also added an assist as the Florida Panthers won 6-5 in a back-and-forth game against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
Sam Reinhart and Niko Mikkola each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who had been shut out in their previous two games. Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, and Jesper Boqvist also scored for Florida. Anton Lundell had two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves.
Zach Hyman scored twice, and Connor McDavid registered three assists for the Oilers, who saw their five-game winning streak end. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist, while Kasperi Kapanen and Connor Brown also scored. Stuart Skinner made 22 saves.
Boqvist gave Florida a 1-0 lead with a short-handed breakaway goal at 2:42 of the first period.
Hyman tied it 1-1 at 15:13 of the first when McDavid found him in the slot, and Hyman scored with a shot high on Bobrovsky’s blocker side.
Tkachuk gave Florida a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 19:32, deflecting Reinhart’s shot with his skate.
Hyman tied it 2-2 at 6:20 of the second with a breakaway goal, lifting a backhand shot stick side past Bobrovsky.
Brown put the Oilers ahead 3-2 just 43 seconds later with a one-timer from below the left circle that beat Bobrovsky.
Draisaitl extended Edmonton’s lead to 4-2 at 9:24 on a power play, firing a one-timer from the right circle off a pass from McDavid.
Forsling’s shot from the blue line deflected off Edmonton defenseman Ty Emberson and floated past Skinner to make it 4-3 at 17:55 of the second.
Mikkola tied the game 4-4 at 6:53 of the third with a goal from the left circle after a feed from Lundell.
Reinhart put Florida back in front 5-4 at 7:23, scoring from the goal line by banking a snap shot off Skinner’s mask.
Kapanen tied it 5-5 at 8:02, scoring after a loose puck bounced off the end glass and slid inside the right post.
Verhaeghe scored the game-winner at 13:05 with a shot from the slot that went over Skinner’s blocker, giving the Panthers a 6-5 victory.
