Charlie Blackmon delivered a crucial two-run double in the eighth inning, securing a 4-2 win for the Colorado Rockies over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
This victory marked the first time this season that the Rockies won consecutive games. Previously, they were the only team in the league that hadn’t achieved back-to-back wins, with a streak of 37 games without consecutive victories, which was their longest drought ever.
Rockies’ starter Austin Gomber highlighted the importance of not expecting sympathy from opponents when they’re not playing well. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s growing momentum.
Blackmon, who had struggled with just 12 hits in his last 69 at-bats, came up big when it mattered most. With runners on first and second and two outs, he smashed a line drive to center field off Yerry Rodríguez, driving in Brenton Doyle and Jake Cave to break the 2-2 tie.
Reflecting on his performance, Blackmon emphasized the importance of maintaining perspective and staying focused on contributing to the team’s success.
Elías Díaz contributed with two hits and an RBI, continuing his strong season with his 13th multi-hit game and team-leading 20th RBI. Brendan Rodgers and Brenton Doyle also added two hits each for the Rockies.
Jake Bird secured the win in relief for the Rockies, while Grant Anderson was charged with the loss for the Rangers. Jalen Beeks closed the game with a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.
