The Chicago Bears are gaining momentum just in time to make a big move before the NFL trade deadline.
With a record of 4-2, the Bears are looking like playoff contenders, especially thanks to rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who has improved significantly this season. This is a crucial time for the Bears to go all-in for a win.
To become serious contenders, the Bears need to boost their pass rush. Even though their stats look decent, they haven’t been able to apply consistent pressure. Strong offensive lines can handle the Bears’ front seven, but that could change if they make a major trade.
Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders might be available before the November 5 deadline, and the Bears are among the teams interested in him. Sanjesh Singh from NBC Los Angeles mentioned the Bears as one of the top possible teams for Crosby.
“After acquiring Montez Sweat from Washington in 2023, Chicago has been figuring out who to pair with him,” Singh noted. “Darrell Taylor came from the Seattle Seahawks, and DeMarcus Walker is getting involved, but Crosby would be a clear upgrade over both.”
Crosby, 27, is one of the best players likely to be traded this season. He has 5.5 sacks already, despite often facing double-teams, and leads the NFL with 54 tackles for loss since the start of the 2022 season.
Bringing Crosby on board would benefit the Bears for two main reasons. First, he would make their defense one of the toughest in the league. Second, it would prevent the division-rival Detroit Lions, who just lost star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson for the season, from getting him.
Trading for Crosby could be the bold move the Bears need to establish themselves as serious contenders for the NFC title. While it would be costly (Crosby is in the second year of a four-year, $94 million contract with an option after 2024), it could definitely be worth it.
