Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins set a lively tone for his introductory news conference with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, channeling his new coach, Antonio Pierce, with a spirited “Raiderrrsss!” before the first question was even asked, mirroring Pierce’s post-game enthusiasm.

Wilkins, who inked a four-year, $110 million contract, and quarterback Gardner Minshew, who agreed to a two-year, $25 million deal, expressed their eagerness about joining the Raiders as the team prepares for its first off-season under Pierce’s leadership.

Sporting a stylish three-piece suit with a window-pane design and lined with playing cards, Wilkins embraced the vibrant atmosphere of Sin City. “I’ve had this thing for a little while but no better time than now to bring it out,” he said. “Vegas is a great city, great place. There’s a lot to be excited about.”

Having spent his first five seasons with Miami, Wilkins is ready to bolster the Raiders’ defensive line, coming off a career-high nine sacks in 2023.

He lauded star edge rusher Maxx Crosby, citing him as a major draw to join the team: “There’s one big reason to want to come here, and that’s number 98.”

Reuniting with defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, under whom he was drafted in Miami in 2019, adds to Wilkins’ confidence in the Raiders as a fitting destination. “I’m just such a character, just such an animated, sick, twisted individual,” he said. “I just love the game.”

Meanwhile, Minshew recognizes the competition he faces at quarterback. With Las Vegas seeking a starter after parting ways with veterans Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer, Minshew aims to seize the opportunity. “Excited to get in and compete with a team that I feel has a chance to be good,” he said.

Minshew, who started 13 games for Indianapolis last season, brings experience and confidence in his ability to adapt to different systems. “I feel very confident in the ability to learn the offense, pick it up,” he stated. “And that’s one of the things I’m really excited to just dive into.”
