New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil was declared unfit to play in Saturday’s playoff game against the Carolina Hurricanes. This decision came after he made his first appearance since November due to a head injury. Chytil was initially ruled out for the season because of this injury.
Chytil didn’t join the team for the morning skate, as coach Peter Laviolette mentioned to reporters that he was dealing with an illness. Laviolette didn’t provide further details about the illness. He stated that Chytil’s availability for the game would be decided just before the game.
Despite the hopes for a second-round sweep, Chytil didn’t hit the ice and was sidelined for Game 4 against the Hurricanes.
The 24-year-old Chytil only played 10 regular-season games before facing concerns about a possible concussion. He then returned to his home country, Czechia, to train with Jaromir Jagr and others to recover. In Thursday’s overtime victory in Game 3, Chytil played for 12 minutes and had 17 shifts.
Laviolette informed reporters on Saturday that Chytil had felt alright on Friday but woke up feeling unwell on Saturday. Jonny Brodzinski took Chytil’s place in the lineup, while Matt Rempe didn’t play despite being healthy.
