Browns Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will not play in this week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers as he continues to recover from a neck injury he sustained during a hard hit while tackling.
Owusu-Koramoah was hospitalized overnight after getting hurt while trying to bring down Baltimore running back Derrick Henry. As Cleveland’s top tackler, he took a significant hit to his head and neck.
Medical staff removed his facemask, and the 24-year-old was placed on a back board before being taken off the field on a cart in the third quarter. The Browns reported that he had movement in his arms and legs.
Coach Kevin Stefanski mentioned that Owusu-Koramoah was at the team’s facility on Wednesday before going home. He did not share any more details about the injury.
After the game against the Chargers, the Browns (2-6) have a bye week before facing New Orleans on November 17. Owusu-Koramoah had seven tackles, five of which were solo, before getting injured against the Ravens. He leads the Browns with 61 tackles and is having a strong season.
Additionally, Browns cornerback Denzel Ward is still in concussion protocol after getting injured in the game against the Ravens. This marks the sixth recorded concussion for Ward since he entered the NFL six years ago as a first-round pick from Ohio State.
Stefanski did not rule out Ward for this week and emphasized that he is day to day.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Ward leads the league with 12 passes defended. He is the only player with at least 10 in each of the last seven seasons.
