Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper had to leave Thursday’s joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings early due to an unspecified injury.
Coach Kevin Stefanski only mentioned that Cooper was “sore” when asked about the injury after the practice.
Cooper, who is 30 years old, caught a short pass from Deshaun Watson and was heard yelling after making a cut on the grass. He stayed on the field for a few more plays before walking off with a trainer.
Last season, Cooper had 72 catches for 1,250 yards with the Browns. He is one of the team’s key players and leaders. In his two seasons with the Browns, Cooper has 150 catches for 2,410 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst also left practice with what appeared to be a leg injury. Stefanski had no update on his condition.
Rookie Mike Hall Jr. was not in pads on Thursday after suffering a stinger during Wednesday’s 11-on-11 drills.
Hall, who was a second-round pick from Ohio State, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with domestic violence for allegedly threatening his fiancée with a gun during an argument. The Browns faced criticism for letting him participate in practice. Hall is scheduled to return to court on September 10.
Stefanski said it is “potentially” possible that Hall’s injury might keep him out for a while.
