Country music singer Cody Johnson sang the national anthem flawlessly before the All-Star Game in his home state of Texas, following a widely criticized performance by Ingrid Andress the previous night, which led to an apology where she admitted to being intoxicated.

Johnson walked up to the microphone between the pitcher’s mound and home plate at the Texas Rangers’ Stadium on Tuesday night. He wore a white cowboy hat and a cream-colored blazer.

The 37-year-old Texan took off his hat just before he began singing and lifted it in his right-hand several times during his performance.

Earlier this season, Johnson had already thrown the ceremonial first pitch at Globe Life Field before being chosen to sing the anthem.

His performance came under extra attention due to the controversy surrounding Andress, who announced on Instagram that she would be entering rehab. Andress had sung the anthem the night before at the Home Run Derby.

Johnson is scheduled to perform at the Rangers’ stadium again in November.

Before Johnson took the stage, Nice Horse, a Canadian duo consisting of Katie Rox and Brandi Sidoryk, sang the anthem in a harmonious rendition that also went smoothly.
