Cole Palmer scored three goals, including two in stoppage time, leading Chelsea to a remarkable 4-3 comeback victory against Manchester United in the Premier League on Thursday. Initially trailing 2-0, Manchester United fought back to take a 3-2 lead.
But Palmer’s penalty in the 110th minute and a deflected shot from outside the box a minute later secured the win for Chelsea. Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed hope that this win would restore the fans’ trust in the team.
However, this defeat, the 12th in the league this season, puts more pressure on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ahead of their upcoming match against Liverpool.
Chelsea took an early lead with Conor Gallagher’s goal in the fourth minute and Palmer’s penalty in the 19th minute.
Despite United’s response with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, they found themselves trailing again after Garnacho’s second goal in the 67th minute.
United seemed to be in control until Palmer’s late heroics, including the crucial penalty and the winning goal. Palmer himself described the win as a significant momentum booster and hoped it would propel Chelsea forward in their upcoming matches.
