Colt Nichols has officially joined the H.E.P. Motorsports Twisted Tea Suzuki team after leaving the Liqui Moly Beta race team, where he competed in Monster Energy AMA Supercross. His new team has announced that he will debut at the Unadilla National on August 10.
This move comes after Nichols’ struggle with a rotator cuff injury that caused him to miss the early rounds of the Supercross season and difficulties adapting to the Beta bike, leading to his departure from the team on June 26th.
Nichols is ranked 26th in the SuperMotocross (SMX) 450 division, with 62 points, and is 43 points behind the 20th place rider, Grant Harlan. Only the top 20 riders automatically qualify for the races. Despite these challenges, Nichols joined H.E.P. Motorsports Twisted Tea Suzuki not just for the rest of this season, but also to prepare for the 2025 campaign.
Suzuki Motor USA, LLC, and Pipes Motorsports Group, LLC, have expressed their excitement about Nichols joining their team. Nichols, a former 250SX West Champion and the 2023 AMA 450SX Rookie of the Year brings significant experience and skill to the Twisted Tea Suzuki team.
The team is optimistic about his potential to deliver strong performances, beginning with his debut at the AMA Motocross Unadilla National.
Nichols will race alongside teammates Shane McElrath and Kyle Chisholm for the rest of the 2024 season. Team Principal Dustin Pipes has praised Nichols’ talent and contributions to improving the Suzuki RM-Z450 motorcycle. The team believes Nichols’ insights and experience will be invaluable as they continue to develop and enhance their performance.
