The Indianapolis Colts are facing challenges ahead of their AFC South matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as they will be without star running back Jonathan Taylor. Coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Taylor, along with cornerback Kenny Moore and defensive end Kwity Paye, will not be participating in the game.

This situation significantly impacts the team’s performance, particularly since Taylor is currently the fifth-leading rusher in the league, which places additional pressure on the Colts’ offensive strategy.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson’s status remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a deep bruise to his hip and oblique area, which he sustained during a 14-yard run against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday. Richardson has been limited in practice for three consecutive days and is listed as questionable for the game. Despite his hopes to play against the Jaguars, he acknowledged that the recovery process is ongoing and he will return to practice when his body permits.

If Richardson is unable to play, the Colts will rely on veteran backup Joe Flacco, who stepped in effectively during the Colts’ recent victory over the Steelers. Flacco completed 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in Richardson’s absence, showcasing his experience and capability to lead the team in crucial moments. This backup quarterback situation could play a pivotal role in the Colts’ overall performance against a formidable Jaguars team.

Taylor’s absence will also affect the Colts’ running game significantly. He suffered an ankle injury in the previous game and did not practice throughout the week. Both Moore and Paye also missed practices due to their respective injuries, limiting the Colts’ defensive options as well. Taylor has expressed the need to regain full mobility to return, emphasizing the importance of being able to execute sharp cuts and explosive movements, especially as a running back.

In Taylor’s absence, the Colts are expected to turn to running back Trey Sermon, with Tyler Goodson also on the active roster to provide support. Additionally, center Ryan Kelly is listed as questionable after missing practices due to a neck injury, having not played against the Steelers. These injury concerns are compounded by the looming matchup against the Jaguars, highlighting the Colts’ need for effective adjustments and a strong performance from their remaining roster members.
