Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore is set to miss his third consecutive game since being traded from the New Orleans Saints on November 5. The Commanders, sitting at 7-4, acquired Lattimore along with a fifth-round draft pick in exchange for third, fourth, and sixth-round picks. Though the team has emphasized that the trade was as much about building for the future as it was about immediate impact, Lattimore’s absence due to a hamstring injury sustained on October 20 has delayed his debut with Washington.

Head coach Dan Quinn expressed optimism regarding Lattimore’s recovery and potential return, hinting that he could play in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans. However, Quinn stressed that the decision would depend on Lattimore’s physical readiness rather than adhering to a specific timetable. The Commanders are taking a cautious approach to ensure the player’s long-term health, as his contract extends through the 2026 season.

In the meantime, Lattimore has been actively involved with the team. He has attended meetings and participated in walk-throughs to remain up to date with the defensive playbook. On the practice field, he has performed lateral movement drills and simulated cornerback coverage scenarios, testing his recovery and evaluating his readiness for competitive play.

While some have speculated that the Commanders might rest Lattimore until after their Week 14 bye, Coach Quinn clarified that this is not the team’s strategy. He reiterated that Lattimore would return whenever his injury is fully healed and he can safely perform at full speed without risking reinjury. Quinn highlighted the importance of ensuring the strength and flexibility of critical muscle groups like the quads, glutes, and hamstrings before allowing him back on the field.

The Commanders are eager to integrate Lattimore into their defense but remain mindful of the risks associated with soft tissue injuries. As they prepare for upcoming matchups, including a December 22 game at New Orleans, the team is prioritizing Lattimore’s health to ensure his contributions are impactful both this season and beyond.
