Connor McDavid has accomplished a feat that only three other individuals in the NHL have ever achieved.
The captain of the Edmonton Oilers, who was sidelined for his team’s last three games due to an undisclosed injury, reached his 100th assist of the season during Monday’s match against the visiting San Jose Sharks.
Wayne Gretzky achieved this milestone 11 times, while Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux each accomplished it once.
McDavid reached the landmark with 4:25 remaining in the second period against the Sharks. He patiently waited for a sprawling Sharks defender before gently passing the puck to forward Zach Hyman, who scored his 54th goal of the season, extending Edmonton’s lead to 9-1.
McDavid also scored his 32nd goal of the season just 53 seconds into the first period.
