Conor Gallagher’s response to an interview request offered insight into Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City.
Despite a challenging season overall, Chelsea showcased a remarkable team effort in their 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.
At the Etihad Stadium, the visitors created several opportunities but saw former player Raheem Sterling score just before halftime.
In the second half, Chelsea displayed resilience, withstanding City’s pressure until Rodri finally found the net. However, Pochettino’s squad held on, securing a well-earned point.
Amidst Chelsea’s inconsistent displays this season, fans were pleased with the dedication shown by the players, especially evident after Conor Gallagher’s post-match interview.
Moments after the final whistle, Gallagher, still catching his breath, jokingly expressed his exhaustion to Sky Sports’ touchline reporter Patrick Davison: “I’m exhausted!”
When asked about the team’s effort in the second half, Gallagher praised his teammates’ defensive prowess: “Really hard, I feel like the lads were brilliant defensively, really focused. I think you could tell we were very tired in the last bits of the game. But we saw it through and we’re happy with that performance.”
Given Gallagher’s significant contributions to Chelsea’s midfield, his fatigue was understandable. In the recent 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, Gallagher covered an impressive 13 kilometers, his highest distance covered in a Premier League match.
While Chelsea wasn’t expected to secure any points at the Etihad, Gallagher expressed a touch of disappointment at not securing a win: “We were winning the game, obviously they dominated in terms of possession but I felt like we had a lot of chances to win the game. We’re disappointed to concede quite late [on], but a point is a good point.”
Next in line for Chelsea is a showdown against Liverpool at Wembley for the Carabao Cup final next Sunday.
