Tim Sherwood has made an intriguing observation about Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez following the Reds’ 4-1 Premier League victory against Brentford on Saturday, February 17.
Jürgen Klopp’s team displayed a dominant performance at the Gtech Stadium, overcoming Brentford convincingly. Nunez, who opened the scoring in the 35th minute, was substituted at halftime due to a suspected injury.
The goal came after attacker Diogo Jota capitalized on a long ball from Virgil van Dijk, setting up Nunez for a counterattack. With remarkable vision, Nunez chipped the ball past Brentford’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken to break the deadlock.
Analyzing Nunez’s goal, Sherwood remarked on the Premier League Productions show (via The Boot Room):
“It’s a crude clearance from van Dijk. That is an unbelievable vision from Diogo Jota to see Darwin Nunez. When he gets time, he always lets you down – not on this occasion. He flicks it seven feet in the air. It’s a wonderful finish. A lot of credit has to go to this lad.”
Nunez’s goal extended his impressive form this season, tallying 13 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
In addition to Nunez’s contribution, Alexis Mac Allister (55′), Mohamed Salah (68′), and Cody Gakpo (86′) also found the back of the net to secure the league leaders a comprehensive victory. Ivan Toney’s 75th-minute goal provided Brentford with a consolation.
Liverpool now sits atop the league standings with 57 points from 25 matches, leading second-placed Arsenal by two points.
