Right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes has signed a six-year, $210 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The deal includes $64 million in deferred payments that will be paid out from 2031 to 2036, according to details shared with The Associated Press.
Burnes will receive a $10 million signing bonus, which is due within 30 days of the deal being approved by the commissioner’s office. His salary will be $30 million in both 2025 and 2026, followed by $35 million each season for the next four years.
The contract, which was announced on Monday, is the largest in Diamondbacks history. It includes $10 million in deferred payments in the first two years and $11 million per year for the next four years.
Burnes, who won the 2021 NL Cy Young Award and is a four-time All-Star, has the option to opt out of the contract after the 2026 season.
If he does not opt out, the deferred payments will be paid as follows: $10 million on November 1 in 2031 and 2032, and $11 million each November 1 from 2033 to 2036.
If Burnes opts out, the deferred money will be paid in two $10 million installments on November 1 in 2027 and 2028.
Burnes also has a full no-trade clause until March 31, 2027. After that, if he doesn’t opt out, he can provide a list of 14 teams he cannot be traded to without his consent, with updates to the list due by March 15 each year starting in 2027.
Burnes’ contract includes performance bonuses: $250,000 for winning the Cy Young Award, $150,000 for finishing second, $100,000 for third, $75,000 for fourth, and $50,000 for fifth.
He would also earn $50,000 for being selected to the All-Star team, winning a Gold Glove, winning the World Series MVP, being named League Championship Series MVP, or finishing first or second on the All-MLB team.
As part of his agreement, Burnes will receive four premium season tickets in the best available location for all regular-season, postseason, and spring training games. He can also purchase up to two additional adjacent tickets.
Additionally, Burnes will have a hotel suite on road trips and has agreed to donate 1% of his salary and signing bonus to the team’s charitable foundation.
Burnes joins a starting rotation for the Diamondbacks that is expected to include Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, and Eduardo Rodríguez.
Burnes, who turned 30 in October, had a 15-9 record with a 2.92 ERA last season with Baltimore, after being traded from Milwaukee in February. He has a career record of 60-36 with a 3.19 ERA in seven seasons with the Brewers and Orioles.
