Slade Cecconi pitched for 5 1/3 innings, allowing only one run. Corbin Carroll’s single in the eighth inning brought in the winning run as Arizona defeated Cincinnati 5-4 on Thursday, completing a series sweep and extending the Reds’ losing streak to eight games.

Joc Pederson hit a home run in the first inning for Arizona, which won its fourth consecutive game. Five different players contributed runs.

In the seventh inning, Spencer Steer’s two-out single tied the game for the struggling Reds. However, Carroll’s two-out hit in the eighth inning drove in Tucker Barnhart, giving Arizona a lead they maintained until the end.

Corbin Carroll starts to pitch

Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald struck out Will Benson and Tyler Stephenson and induced a ground ball from TJ Friedl to secure his first save.

Cecconi, who improved his record to 2-2, pitched for 5 1/3 innings, conceding one run and three hits while striking out two batters. Kevin Ginkel earned the win by pitching a scoreless inning.

Reds starter Hunter Greene saw his streak of 15 1/3 scoreless innings come to an end with Pederson’s home run.
