Bellator light-heavyweight contender Corey Anderson has once again directed his attention towards former UFC champion Jamahal Hill.
‘Overtime’ recently secured a bout scheduled for March against Karl Moore, marking his return to the cage. Set to compete at Bellator 302 in Ireland, Anderson is determined to clinch the coveted world champion title.
Riding high from a split-decision victory over Phil Davis last summer, the seasoned light-heavyweight contender exudes confidence in his ability to achieve this feat.
For Corey Anderson, claiming the light-heavyweight championship would not only validate his career as a fighter but also underscore his belief in the superiority of Bellator’s 205-pound division over the UFC’s. Those familiar with his ongoing feud with Jamahal Hill would find this sentiment unsurprising.
In 2023, ‘Sweet Dreams’ and Corey Anderson engaged in a public exchange regarding their respective divisions. During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the Bellator contender reignited the feud by scrutinizing Jamahal Hill’s journey to the title.
Specifically, the former Bellator title challenger alleged that Hill hadn’t faced many contenders en route to his title shot.
Anderson pointed out that Hill struggled more against Glover Teixeira for UFC gold compared to Anderson’s own bout against Teixeira in 2018. Furthermore, ‘Overtime’ highlighted that he accepted the fight against Teixeira on short notice.
During the interview, Corey Anderson addressed the issue directly, stating, “He said something about ‘You will never be this and that, and what you think about me’, bro I don’t think about you. I didn’t even say your name!” referring to Jamahal Hill.
“That’s the reason he came in my inbox or whatever. I did an interview and didn’t mention him as one of the top light-heavyweights, so he clapped back. He got offended because I didn’t mention him, but he doesn’t cross my mind or my radar.”
Continuing, Anderson emphasized, “Like, congrats. You beat a guy for the belt that I dominated on a week and a half notice, and you got cut up and beat up by him a little bit. So, that’s what you’re bragging on?
Say what you want, we beat the same people. Did you knock out Johnny Walker? I knocked out Johnny Walker. Just because you’ve got the belt, doesn’t mean nothing. I said the 205-pound division in the UFC ain’t what it used to be.”
“Jamahal got that belt when [Aleksandar] Rakic, [Magomed] Ankalaev, and Jan Blachowicz were all hurt,” Corey Anderson concluded on The MMA Hour. “I think all three of those guys are better than him. But, they were all out at the time when he got the call. He didn’t beat anybody, I said that, and he got mad.”
