Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is set to make his first appearance of the season against Cadiz in the Spanish league on Saturday, as confirmed by coach Carlo Ancelotti on Friday.
Courtois, who is 31 years old, has been sidelined due to a long-term injury. He suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in August, just before the start of the season, and later injured the meniscus in his right knee in March while preparing for his return.
Ancelotti stated, “Courtois is in good shape. He will play tomorrow after a lengthy absence.” Courtois, a key player who helped Real Madrid win the Champions League in 2022, has been eagerly awaited by fans for his return to action.
Real Madrid has a chance to secure the Spanish league title on Saturday if they win against Cadiz, while Barcelona plays against Girona. Ancelotti also mentioned that Andriy Lunin, who has performed well as Courtois’ replacement, will start in goal for the upcoming match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinal, which is currently tied at 2-2.
Ancelotti added, “Lunin will be in goal against Bayern, and then we will decide our plans for the goalkeepers.”
