Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks has gone back to Dallas for a personal matter and will miss the last few days of training camp in California.
“Everything is good,” coach Mike McCarthy said about Cooks before Tuesday’s practice in Oxnard. “It’s a good thing. But he won’t practice today or tomorrow.”
Dallas finishes training camp on Thursday and plays its final preseason game on Saturday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cooks was the only experienced receiver at camp since All-Pro CeeDee Lamb was holding out while trying to get a new contract. Lamb is in the last year of his rookie deal.
The 30-year-old Cooks was a reliable No. 2 receiver behind Lamb for quarterback Dak Prescott last season and has received positive comments from McCarthy in camp.
Cooks had 657 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season. Over his 10-season career, he has accumulated 9,273 receiving yards.
