Dalvin Cook had an impressive 2022 season with the Minnesota Vikings, amassing 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, and earning a Pro Bowl selection for the fourth year in a row. However, his performance with the New York Jets last year fell short, as he only accumulated 214 yards on 67 carries and did not score any touchdowns.

Cook’s disappointing numbers with the Jets were influenced by several factors, including his recovery from shoulder surgery and the team’s struggles following quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ early-season Achilles injury.

Cook believes that the Jets’ overall difficulties, including Rodgers’ injury, played a significant role in his underwhelming statistics. He noted that the abrupt change in the team’s dynamics after Rodgers’ injury led to confusion and a lack of effective strategies. Despite these challenges, Cook does not view his time with the Jets as a failure but rather as a period affected by circumstances beyond his control.

Following his release from the Jets, Cook joined the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad and was later promoted to the 53-man roster for the playoffs. During the playoffs, Cook had limited opportunities, carrying the ball eight times for 23 yards. He expressed a readiness to contribute more but found his role constrained with the Ravens.

Recently, Cook signed with the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad after the team initially considered him earlier in the offseason. Coach Mike McCarthy, who has admired Cook’s abilities from previous games, is excited about his potential contributions. The Cowboys, with a running back committee approach that includes Ezekiel Elliott and others, are looking to integrate Cook into their plans.

On the Cowboys’ practice squad, Cook can be elevated to the active roster three times before needing to be signed permanently. Despite being 29 years old and confident in his career achievements, Cook remains motivated by his desire to be a role model for his young son. He is focused on making a positive impact with the Cowboys and continuing to learn and grow within the team’s running back group.
