Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, faced a troubling situation earlier this year when his home address was leaked on social media by a classmate of his daughter. This breach of privacy led to a series of unwanted visitors and harassment at the Campbells’ residence in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, compelling them to sell their home.
The incident gained attention after the Detroit News reported on the harassment, detailing how it escalated following the Lions’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
On January 28, the night of the game, multiple individuals showed up at the Campbell home, which raised immediate concerns for the family’s safety. A Lions security official alerted the Bloomfield Township police after discovering that Campbell’s address had been posted online.
The investigation revealed that a male high school classmate of Campbell’s daughter had shared the address on Snapchat, accompanied by mocking comments about the game. At that time, Dan and Holly Campbell were away in the Bay Area, leaving their daughter vulnerable at home.
The situation escalated when the Campbells’ daughter was home with her boyfriend. As unwanted visitors began to arrive, the boyfriend took action by flashing his headlights at the intruders, which caused them to disperse.
Concerned for their daughter’s safety, the Campbells instructed her to leave the house with her boyfriend. The police were then called to patrol the area for several days following the incident to ensure their safety.
After an investigation, the classmate who leaked the address was identified and questioned. He explained that he and his friends were upset about the game loss and thought it was humorous to post the address. This group later approached the Campbell residence, yelling derogatory comments.
However, a police investigator informed Holly Campbell that the events did not warrant criminal charges against the classmate, leaving her worried about the potential for future incidents, particularly when her husband would be away.
Ultimately, the Campbells chose to move to a new location to avoid any further harassment. Their previous home, a 7,800-square-foot property, was put on the market for $4.5 million and quickly garnered interest, with a pending deal within a day.
Although Dan Campbell refrained from commenting specifically on the sale of their home, he expressed his appreciation for Lions fans, affirming his commitment to the team despite the unsettling circumstances surrounding their address leak.
