UFC CEO Dana White has announced that he will no longer be influenced by fighters’ requests to increase performance bonuses before a fight card. This decision follows UFC 304, where White had agreed to double the performance bonuses from $50,000 to $100,000.
Despite this increase, the event saw seven consecutive fights go to the judges, leading White to question the effectiveness of higher bonuses in promoting more thrilling performances.
White expressed his frustration with the lackluster results after the bonus increase, stating that it did not inspire fighters to deliver more exciting bouts. He made it clear that he believes the increase in bonuses did not have the desired impact and is not willing to repeat the process in the future. White’s comments reflect his disappointment with the outcomes despite the financial incentives provided.
In his post-fight comments, White was blunt about his decision. He emphasized that raising the bonus amounts did not lead to any noticeable improvement in fighter performance or urgency. He criticized the fighters for not taking full advantage of the opportunity to secure the higher bonuses, suggesting that the extra money did not translate into more aggressive or entertaining fights.
White concluded by firmly stating that he would not entertain any future requests for increased bonuses at press conferences. He expressed his discontent with the outcome of UFC 304 and made it clear that he will not be adjusting the bonus structure based on fighter appeals, regardless of future circumstances.
