Daniel Bækkegård backs the PTO despite difficult first race of the season in Miami

Daniel Bækkegård, renowned for his remarkable consistency in the 100km distance, recently secured an eighth-place finish at the inaugural race of the T100 Tour in Miami. Despite acknowledging the grueling nature of his return to competitive racing, Bækkegård remains optimistic about his prospects for the season ahead.

In a reflective debrief on YouTube, Bækkegård accentuated the positive aspects of his performance and expressed confidence in his potential for improvement as the season unfolds. Additionally, he took the opportunity to commend the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) amidst some criticism of their broadcast during the Miami event. Ranked as the World #11, Bækkegård lauded the PTO’s efforts and eagerly anticipated the upcoming events on the calendar.

Describing his experience in Miami, the 27-year-old athlete emphasized the extraordinary challenges posed by the sweltering heat, humidity, and the formidable competition.

He remarked, “It was a brutal way of getting back into racing, with high temperatures and high humidity making it one of the most brutal season openers I have ever done.” Despite the demanding conditions, Bækkegård showcased his competitive spirit, acknowledging the need for prudence while recognizing the relentless pace set by competitors like Alistair Brownlee.

Looking ahead to the next leg of the tour in Singapore, scheduled in two weeks, Bækkegård expressed his aspirations for a podium finish following a training stint in Noosa, Australia. He revealed, “We got some good indications of what needs doing to be competitive in Singapore, so now I am going to prepare in Noosa and get ready to fight for the podium in Singapore.”

Anticipating the opportunity to compete against the world’s best athletes, Bækkegård embraced the challenges ahead with enthusiasm, emphasizing the excitement of the upcoming months leading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
