The New York Giants are facing the possibility of being without quarterback Daniel Jones for the second consecutive week, as he is listed as questionable for their upcoming game against the Washington Commanders this Sunday. Jones is still recovering from the neck injury he sustained in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Brian Daboll informed reporters that Jones has not yet been cleared for contact, as reported by NFL Media.
If Jones is unable to play, Tyrod Taylor will once again assume the starting quarterback role. In the Giants’ recent 14-9 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Taylor completed 24 of 36 passes for 200 yards and rushed for 24 yards on five carries. Taylor’s performance was generally strong, except for a clock-management mistake at the end of the first half that had significant consequences.
Despite the error, Taylor led the Giants’ offense on a 13-play, 56-yard drive with the game on the line but was unable to connect with Darren Waller in the end zone for what could have been the game-winning touchdown as time expired.
Daniel Jones has faced a challenging start to the season, ranking third-lowest in yards per attempt (5.9) and 31st in passing yards per game (176.8). The former first-round pick from Duke has thrown only two touchdowns while recording six interceptions. He has also been sacked 28 times, the second-highest in the league, behind Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders.
Interestingly, the Washington Commanders have been Daniel Jones’ favored opponent, as he holds a 5-1-1 record against them, while his record against all other teams is 17-30. Jones has never lost a home game against Washington. The Commanders currently possess the fourth-worst defense in the league, allowing an average of 377.2 yards of total offense per game.
