Danielle Collins continues her winning streak after clinching the Miami Open title, now adding the Charleston Open championship to her achievements on Sunday.
Collins defeated Daria Kasatkina, ranked 11th, with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-1, marking her 13th consecutive victory. She joins Serena Williams as the only player since 2013 to secure back-to-back victories on hard courts and green clay.
With her fourth WTA title, Collins exudes confidence as she maneuvers her final season on the tour.
“I’m just trying to maintain this momentum,” Collins shared after her win. “Stay true to myself on the court and not dwell too much on what comes next.”
Known as the “Danimal,” Collins showcased her dominance throughout the tournament, dropping just one set in six matches. She seized an early lead in the final, breaking Kasatkina’s serve twice in the opening set, with the crowd rallying behind her every move.
In the second set, she maintained her momentum, claiming a 5-0 lead before closing out the match with a confident volley at the net.
Despite struggling with her serve, Kasatkina acknowledged Collins’ exceptional performance during the trophy ceremony.
Collins, who has openly discussed her battle with endometriosis, remains resolute in her decision to retire from tennis to pursue other life goals, such as starting a family. Her recent success has reinforced her desire to leave the sport on a high note, showcasing her best tennis in her final events.
Despite her achievements, Collins remains grounded, continuing to travel without a full-time coach or a large entourage like many of her peers.
