Daniil Medvedev has expressed admiration for Gilles Simon after the Frenchman joined his coaching team.
Medvedev has been under the guidance of Gilles Cervara as his coach since 2017, even relocating to France to train with Cervara in Cannes alongside other members of his coaching staff, including Eric Hernandez (physical trainer) and Yann Le Meur (sports scientist).
In 2024, marking the eighth season of Medvedev and Cervara’s partnership, Cervara plans to reduce his travel with the Russians. Former player Simon will step in to fulfill coaching duties during Cervara’s absence.
Regarding Simon’s addition to his team, Medvedev expressed confidence that the Frenchman would contribute to his growth as a player and aid in securing titles.
“He is an addition to the team. He is going to help us move forward, help us win titles, and help me become a better player. We see how it goes. So far it has been going well. Hopefully, it is for a very long time, but that depends on a lot of factors. We will see how much time he spends,” he said.
Medvedev also emphasized that while Gilles Cervara would be more present than Gilles Simon, he expects Simon to address areas of his game that require improvement.
“I expect that Gilles Simon is a very smart player who can help me improve my game – especially hoping to improve parts of my game that are maybe not the best. So far it’s been going good,” he stated.
