Bid farewell to the 76ers. But Joel Embiid isn’t leaving. Tyrese Maxey is staying too. It seems like Nick Nurse will remain as the coach for a long time.
However, for the rest of the team, it’s time to wish them well. Most of the players, like Kelly Oubre Jr., Kyle Lowry, and Nic Batum, have contracts that have ended with the season.
This summer, the team president, Daryl Morey, has around $65 million in salary cap space. They also have a first-round draft pick and a maximum contract to offer Maxey.
They have a lot of questions to answer on how to truly build a championship team around Embiid.
“We won’t have the same players,” Morey said at the 76ers’ headquarters in New Jersey on Monday. “We’ll keep our star players and our head coach, but there will be a lot of changes this season.”
The 76ers haven’t won an NBA championship in 41 years. They haven’t made it past the second round since 2001. It’s time for a fresh start, but this time, to win a championship, not just rebuilding.
“We’re focusing on Joel and Tyrese, and we’re focused on the present,” Morey added.
