The long-anticipated news finally came true last week when star wide receiver Davante Adams asked to be traded from the Las Vegas Raiders. To many, this news wasn’t very surprising.
Adams is one of the top receivers in the NFL, but at 31 years old, and with the Raiders clearly not in a position to compete for the playoffs or a championship this season or in the near future, it made sense for both parties to part ways. Even though Adams denied it leading up to the 2024 season, it seemed logical for him to move on.
However, a new report indicates that the Raiders did not see it this way. Jay Glazer, reporting for Fox Sports on Fox NFL Pregame on Sunday morning, stated that the Raiders were “blindsided” by Adams’s trade request when it came in last Monday.
“They think everything is fine,” Glazer said about the Raiders. “On Monday, [Adams] reaches out to Antonio Pierce, says, ‘I want to come up and meet with you.’
He thinks it’s about his hamstring. He comes in and says, ‘I want out. I’m done. I want to finish my career like this.’ He completely blindsided them.”
Adams’s repeated statements all summer that he was committed to the Raiders seemed to convince the team. But once it became clear that Las Vegas wouldn’t be able to compete, it looks like Adams changed his mind, and the Raiders were caught off guard.
So far this season, Adams has made 18 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown, but he has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury.
