Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams strongly supported the decision to bench quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo last season and may have played a role in that decision.
In a clip from the Netflix documentary show “Receiver,” Adams was asked about his thoughts on benching Garoppolo.
“Well, my take on that was that I agreed with it, and that’s just how it was,” Adams said.
Adams didn’t elaborate on what he meant by “I agreed with it,” but it suggests that Raiders coach Antonio Pierce sought Adams’ opinion, and Adams supported benching Garoppolo in favor of Aidan O’Connell.
Adams also hinted that he might have considered leaving Las Vegas if the Raiders hadn’t made a change at quarterback.
“I have a lot of respect for Jimmy. He’s a great person, but we needed something to happen for us to have a chance late in the season and for me to stay with the Raiders, honestly,” Adams said.
Now, O’Connell is competing with Gardner Minshew for the starting quarterback position, and Adams hopes one of them can effectively get him the ball in his third season with the Raiders.
