Denmark moved into the round of 16 at the European Championship after a tough 0-0 draw with Serbia on Tuesday. Their prize? A game against host nation Germany — this Saturday in Dortmund.

“Playing against Germany here with the Danish team, it can’t get any better, can’t wait,” said Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand. “They’re a great team but so are we. When we face the big nations, we always rise to the occasion.”

Denmark ended Group C with three points, tying with Slovenia. But Denmark took second place due to a better disciplinary record. Slovenia also made it to the Euro 2024 knockout stage after drawing 0-0 with group winner England.

Denmark players celebrate after winning the game

Despite Serbia needing a win to advance, Denmark had more chances, mostly through Christian Eriksen, who set a new record with his 133rd appearance for his country.

Denmark and Slovenia finished level on points, goal difference, and goals scored. Both teams received six yellow cards each. However, Denmark’s cleaner disciplinary record, helped by a yellow card given to Slovenia’s assistant coach Milivoje Novakovic in their first match against Denmark, gave them the edge.
